If you're a space fan these days, you're a SpaceX fan. This relatively new and highly successful commercial company is going to radically reduce the cost of going into space, chiefly by reusing all aspect of the spacecraft and launch vehicle, for the first time in history. Hotels in space are next, already being constructed and tested by Bigelow Aerospace. Rapidly following that will be the first asteroid mining in near Earth space, which will supply cheap fuel for all space vehicles from then on, and those will be heading to both the moon and mars.
The asteroid mining company and the moon colony company are already set up and going full tilt, staffed with scientists and engineers from NASA. And heavily funded.
